Premiere: Dana Ruh ‘She Said’
Dana Ruh will release a new EP, ‘Down Is The New Up’, later this summer via her Brouqade imprint. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘She Said’ below.
Coming off the back of her Smallville Records debut, along with releases on Housewax and Slices Of Life, the Berlin-based DJ, producer, and Club der Visionaere resident continues to hone her signature style of deep, dubby house with an old skool relish.
Her newest EP arrives via her own Brouqade label — founded alongside Ann M Cazal back in 2007 — and boasts three stripped-back house cuts with psychedelic toplines and minimal textures, primed for the haziest of early morning dancefloors.
The title track, ‘Down Is The New Up’, introduces a project imbued with the wonky sounds of Ruh’s long-time home of Berlin, with echoing synth stabs, minor keys, and twitchy acid lines riding a crackling, dub house style bassline.
‘She Said’ mixes its darker tones with a more euphoric pigment; a labyrinth of spaced-out chords and muzzy vocal samples moving swiftly over Ruh’s perennial underground house groove. Designed for even later-night listening is closer ‘Vita’, with sparse, squelching refrains, ticking percussion, and the seductive acid sizzle of her ‘Different Places Different Faces’ EP – rounding out a project that can be comfortably described as modestly moreish.
‘Down Is The New Up’ is out later this summer. Listen to ‘She Said’ below.
