Premiere: Daisy Moon ‘Tonyo’

Daisy Moon will release a new EP, ‘System Creak’, later this week on Shanti Celeste and Gramrcy’s Peach Discs label. Have an exclusive first listen to ‘Tonyo’ below.

On her first release since 2022’s head-twisting single ‘No Xylem’ for Rhythm Section, the Bristol-based producer and DJ taps into the bubbling house and techno sounds found in her DJ sets, which have taken her from Berlin and Tisno, to Magdalena (Colombia) and beyond.

Inspired by “unifying moments on the dancefloor”, ‘System Creak’ finds Moon casting her sights staunchly on the club, needling bubbling synthwork and pin-point percussion into a suite of fiery, four-four steppers. Our pick of the bunch is ‘Tonyo’: a bouncy house-techno hybrid with a seriously hooky vocal.

Speaking to DJ Mag about the project, she shared: “I wanted to make something designed for the dancefloor with this EP. As I knew it was coming on Peach Discs, I tried to write the sort of music I like to hear when I’m dancing. I was trying to work more with dancefloor tension and release, and make something playful and melodic that has carefree, fun, upbeat energy.”

‘System Creak’ – out this Friday, 12th June – follows Moon’s ethereal debut EP on Idle Hands and excellent contributions to Mica Levi’s Curl label and Rhythm Section’s ‘Shouts’ compilation. A pivotal figure in Bristol’s tight-knit electronic community, the producer also runs Off-Kilter, a curated mix series and events platform that – in her own words – ”nods to the experimental, murkier side of her tastes”.

Her newest project marks Peach Discs’ third EP of 2024, following Cloudsteppers’ ‘Aqua Hotel’ and ‘The Monogamous’ EP from trUst label boss, Saoirse.

‘System Creak’ is out 14th June. Pre-order the EP here, and have an exclusive first listen to ‘Tonyo’ below.
