Premiere: Brawni ‘Plonk’
Reasons To Dance will unveil the second instalment of its SUNROOM compilation series later this week. Have an exclusive first listen to Brawni’s contribution ‘Plonk’ below.
The V/A release drops this Friday (23rd May) on the Dublin label, sporting eight kaleidoscopic steppers from artists in Australia, the UK, Ireland and beyond. Landing two years after the inaugural ‘SUNROOM compilation – which put Reasons To Dance and its strain of “bright, optimistic dance music” firmly on the map – the sophomore project ventures deeper into the night, introducing a more refined, after-hours twist on the label’s signature sonics.
“When approaching our second compilation, we tried to see how we could interpret our [mantra] in a slightly different light,” Reasons To Dance told DJ Mag. “We kept the sparkle, but this time with a slightly sharper edge. The line between cool and warm blurs, but the ethos stays the same. All artists involved truly brought the sunroom to life.”
London-based producer and All Centre affiliate Mossambi gets things moving with the slippery club cut ‘Capsule Wardrobe’, ahead of cheeky rave goodness from VVS1, channelling Katy B circa 2011 on ‘Ooze’. Beefy basslines meet blissed-out dembow on Lúnasa’s latest heater, ‘Reggaeton Dream’, followed by tripped-out grooves a plenty from label heads Ffion and Dåser on their respective contributions.
On the B-side, Aussie mainstay Strict Face continues to refine his percussion-heavy club sound with ‘In Rings’, alongside breakneck bangers from York’s Osc and Irish hardware junkie Brawni, who delivers a standout display of wild, warped electronics and deliciously off-kilter beats on ‘Plonk’.
Speaking about his creative process, Brawni shared: “My sound is influenced by how underground music is right now, in my opinion. It’s such an amalgamation of sounds from scenes all over the world. I think we’re in an interesting time – everyone has these portals in their pockets and can hear music from everywhere, different sounds from different places are just melding into each other. I want to be somewhere in that soup but taking ingredients from different places.”
Since being selected for AVA’s Creators Forum in 2024, the artist has been going from strength to strength, recently collaborating with Sloucho as part of his OUCH™ performance, and releasing music on Cloudcore and Air Texture. You can check out Brawni’s recent DJ set for Ar Ais Arís here.
‘SUNROOM002’ is out 23rd May 2025. Pre-order the compilation here, and have an exclusive first listen to Brawni’s contribution ‘Plonk’ below.
The first instalment of the SUNROOM compilation series landed in 2023, featuring music from St. Amp, Glimmerman, Laurence Kapinga, Spooklet, and more. All proceeds from that release were donated to UNRWA in aid to support the ongoing conflict in Palestine.
