Pontins Southport, Bang Face Weekender festival home, shuts with immediate effect

UK holiday park Pontins Southport, the home of Bang Face Weekender, has closed for good.

The Merseyside resort temporarily shut earlier this week due to flooding caused by Storm Henk, a decision made permanent on 3rd January following a viability assessment, BBC reports. The venue most recently hosted a New Year’s Eve family event.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of Pontins Southport Holiday Park”, the venue’s team announced on the Pontins website. “After assessing the future viability of the park, we have come to the difficult decision to close our doors.”

This is the third Pontins site to close since November 2023 when the Prestatyn and Camber Sands (home of The Cause’s 2022 Seaside Beano festival) holiday parks were also shut “with immediate effect”. Britannia Hotels has owned the Pontins sites since 2011.

Bang Face Weekender, whose 2024 festival is planned for early May, shared a brief statement about the closure. “We are looking at how this may affect the 2024 Weekender”, the organisers wrote, “and will provide an update as soon as possible.”

The festival has already revealed part of the 2024 line-up, which includes Hudson Mohawke, Helena Hauff, DjRUM, SHERELLE, Mefjus and Dillinja.
