Pendulum announce first album in 15 years, ‘INERTIA’, share single: Listen

Pendulum have announced the release date for their first new album in 15 years.

‘INERTIA’ lands on 22nd August via Mushroom Music and features contributions from Bullet For My Valentine, Wargasm, AWOLNATION, Scarlxrd and more.

According to a press statement, the 16-track LP was written “during a period of self-questioning and frustration”, said the band’s Rob Swire. “Love felt like something I didn’t fully trust myself with anymore.” The album is described as an “emotional maelstrom” and “the band’s most personal work to date”.

The LP’s first single, ‘Save the Cat’, is available to listen to now. Check it out below.

“I was basically testing how far we could push Pendulum,” added Swire. “Seeing what we could get away with. I always looked at The Prodigy as the benchmark. They started out as pure rave — breakbeat, hardcore — but they evolved. They became their own sound. You don’t even really associate them with breakbeat anymore. They just are The Prodigy.”

He continued: “It’s the sound of Pendulum finding themselves again, and me figuring myself out to a certain extent. Breakups do that — they strip things down and show you who you are. I’m just trying not to become the guy who needs to go through one just to make a record.”

Pendulum’s last full-length release came in 2010 with ‘Immersion’. This new LP follows 2021’s ‘Elemental’ EP and 2023’s ‘Anima’ EP.

Earlier this month, Swire linked up with Armin van Buuren for a new collaborative single, ‘Sound of You’, having previously performed a drum & bass version of the single to close out van Buuren’s set at the last edition of Tomorrowland in July 2024.

In January, the family of former Pendulum vocalist Ben Verse launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with medical treatment, care and other costs related to his acute leukaemia diagnosis.
