Patrick Topping announces alcohol-free daytime Sober October Rave

Patrick Topping has revealed plans for an alcohol-free daytime rave to mark this year’s Sober October.

The Newcastle-born DJ and producer took to Instagram on 11th September to share the news. “I’m putting on a Sober October Rave! No alcohol will be served, and it will be during the day,” he wrote. “I started playing sober in 2017, and it changed my relationship with music and partying, improving my mental and physical health so much.”

In the post, Topping stressed that the event isn’t about opposing alcohol, but about providing an alternative experience. “I’m not saying I’m fully against alcohol – every other event I play at sells it. I just want to offer an alternative for a night during Sober October, where people can come and not feel the pressure to drink but still enjoy that communal experience of raving together.”

The daytime rave element is to put the spotlight back on the music while promoting a healthier environment for attendees. “It’s going to be during the day too, so everyone is full of energy,” Topping continued. “I love the idea of people being able to come and not feel hungover or tired for days after, but instead just have a fully positive experience, where the music is central and it’s a really healthy, unique shared experience.”

Topping encouraged fans to comment on which city they’d like to see the event held in, with a link to register interest available in his Instagram bio. Read his full post below.

Topping’s announcement comes just over a year after a new, alcohol-free club night from Mina debuted at Colour Factory in Hackney Wick.
