Outdoor spatial audio festival to debut in London next summer
A new spatial audio festival, Polygon Live, will make its London debut next year.
Taking place at Crystal Palace from 2nd to 4th May 2025, the festival will use a dual-dome stage design, with 100 speakers installed across each LED-lit dome. The system includes 12 L-Acoustics speaker arrays surrounding the audience; a sub-wall; and four overhead arrays.
Among the acts confirmed to appear are Jon Hopkins, Photay, Gold Panda, Arooj Aftab, Halina Rice, Nitin Sawhney and Tinariwen.
“Originally, our deployment of spatial audio emerged from the live sets of electronic music,” Polygon CEO Nico Elliott explained. “Live DJs use a number of sounds, textures, frequencies and rhythms, which helped to push our understanding of what’s possible in spatial audio.
“At Polygon Live LDN, our programming has evolved. Working in partnership with renowned curators OpenLab, we’ve brought together an incredible line-up of visionary artists spanning electronic, world, jazz and experimental music to showcase their work in our 360° environment.”
Billed as “largest outdoor spatial audio festival” in the UK, versions of Polygon Live have previously appeared at Amsterdam Dance Event and Thailand’s Wonderfruit Festival.
Last month it was confirmed that 72 UK festivals cancelled or postponed in 2024. Meanwhile, Creamfields unveiled a new 360° “mega stage” for next year, Field Day announced its relocation to Brockwell Park in South London, and Love International has announced the first wave of acts for its 2025 edition.
