Nicole Kidman raves at New York club BASEMENT in new erotic thriller, Babygirl: Watch
The new erotic thriller Babygirl, starring Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson, features a rave scene filmed at New York club BASEMENT.
Fans have spotted the industrial Brooklyn venue as the setting for a rave in the A24 production, already out in the US with its regular release in UK cinemas coming this Friday, 10th January. As Mixmag reported, X user Fashion Faguette shared a clip of the club scene, showing the venue’s hallway layout, captioned, “Nicole Kidman @ Basement in Babygirl….. I – Yes you can have a wristband! You are giving”.
The scene shows Kidman’s character Romy looking through the heaving crowd for Dickinson’s Samuel, who pulls Romy close to him as they dance to Yellow Claw, Natte Visstick and RHYME’s track ‘CRUSH‘.
In a behind-the-scenes clip from the Babygirl rave, Kidman said, “I loved it, it was so freeing… I want to go back to that rave now.”
BASEMENT opened in 2019 to be a new arts and techno hub located in the Knockdown Center. The design of the space intends to resemble an “industrial catacomb… making it ideal for techno”.
Another recent film that takes advantage of the unique industrial atmosphere of techno clubs is The Batman (2022), directed by Matt Reeves. The Robert Pattinson-starring superhero movie used South London superclub Printworks to serve as the set for The Iceberg Lounge, the seedy nightclub run by Colin Farrell’s mobster Penguin. Printworks closed in May 2023 with a goal of reopening in a permanent space, potentially by 2026.
