Nick León announces debut album, ‘A Tropical Entropy’, on TraTraTrax

Nick León has announced his debut album, ‘A Tropical Entropy’. Listen to the first single, ‘Ghost Orchid’ featuring Ela Minus, below.

Set for release via Colombian label TraTraTrax on 27th June, the Miami-based producer’s first full-length is pegged as his “manifesto”. It’s release comes in the midst of a prolific few years for the artist, whose landmark moments to date have included major tracks such as ‘Xtasis‘ with Venezuelan raptor house creator DJ Babatr and ‘Bikini’ with Erika De Casier, one of DJ Mag’s favourites of last year.

The latter track appears on ‘A Tropical Entropy’, alongside collaborations with Casey MQ, Xander Amahd, Jonny from Space, Esty, Mediopicky and Lavurn.

‘A Tropical Entropy’ is informed by psychedelia, sleep deprivation, altered states of consciousness, memory and decay. It is also partly inspired by Joan Didion’s dark 1987 non-fiction socio-political analysis, Miami. Based on her trilogy of essays for The New York Review of Books, the acclaimed work focuses on Cubans exiled following the collapse of dictator Fulgencio Batista’s regime in 1959.

In a statement announcing the album on Instagram, León said: “‘A Tropical Entropy’ is my love letter to the place that raised me and its spirit that I carry with me everywhere I go. Traveling for 2 years nonstop had me reflecting on home and the relationships that I left behind as well as the ones I had to fight for. This all found its way into the music and I was lucky enough to be able to invite friends, some old & some new into my world to help make sense of all of those feelings.”

Pre-order the album on Bandcamp.
