A new virtual techno club is set to launch this weekend.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, clubs and festivals have been finding new ways to get creative, bringing artists sets and performances to their respective online platforms.

The latest of these projects is the world’s first virtual techno club, appropriately titled techno-club.net. The virtual platform, which is the brainchild of The Advent and Portland’s Dave Bate, will provide an immersive club experience, with special focus on techno, house and electro.

The club will open with its first transmission this weekend, streaming sets around-the-clock from Friday until Sunday, with competitions, a live chat, and live performances from artists.

Among the DJs scheduled to play the first transmission are Detroit father/daughter DJ duo Floorplan, who’ll perform alongside the likes of Ron Trent, Lady CC, and Tony Humphries. There’ll also be sets from Kerrie, Detroit Techno Militia and Hiroko Yamamura across the club’s 10 dedicated rooms.

The club runs on a pay-per-minute viewing system, with three price teirs from €5 for 300 minutes, €10 for 600 minutes, and €20 for 1200 mins.

Techno-club.net will launch this Friday, 25th September, at 9PM GMT, and run through to Sunday 26th at 11PM GMT. All weekend sets will remain online for one week, allowing viewers to catch up, top up or use their remaining purchased minutes. You can find out more about the new club concept, and get tickets for the first transmission, here.

Major cities have long been the central hubs for dance music, in part thanks to their appeal to travelling DJs and fans. With coronavirus massively impacting tourism, however, even when clubs do reopen they could face severely reduced crowds and income. In August, DJ Mag spoke to researchers and music industry experts about what this could mean for the future of city clubbing.
