New book teaches children about Chicago footwork

A new children’s book has been published devoted to Chicago footwork.

Elvin Discovers Chicago Footwork centres around a dancing elephant named Elvin and explores both the music genre and the dancing at the centre of the scene. It’s the creation of a partnership between ChicagoFootworkDotCom, Jones Corner Store and Creative Netwerk.

“The collaborative mission of this project is to strengthen literacy and the arts through our love for Chicago Footwork culture,” read a statement shared alongside the publishing of Elvin Discovers Chicago Footwork. “We are excited to present this colouring book to serve children and families through formative literacy, arts and community building experiences.”

Chicago footwork producer DJ T-Rell has produced original music for the book’s accompanying album, titled ‘The Break Down Vol. 1’, which highlights both the footwork and house music of Chicago.

This week, Chicago footwork producer Traxman announced the release of a forthcoming album, ‘Da Mind Of Traxman Vol. 3’, via Planet Mu.
