Moonchild Sanelly announces new album, shares single with Ghetts: Listen

Moonchild Sanelly has announced details of her forthcoming second album.

The South African musician and dancer – real name Sanelisiwe Twisha – will release ‘Phases’ via Transgressive Records on 10th June. The follow-up to her 2020 debut mini-LP ‘Nüdes’, the 19-track release features production and guest appearances by Sad Night Dynamite, Wesley Joseph, Xavier Thomas, TOKiMONSTA, HOLLY and Aramboa.

Heading the release is lead new single ‘Strip Club’ featuring London MC Ghetts, whose album ‘Conflict Of Interest’ won in the Best Rap Album category at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards 2021. Speaking about the track, Sanelly said: “This song means so much to me. Especially as the people being entertained in the strip club are the ones condemning these women in the outside world. This is my love letter to the hustlers, the strippers and the twerkers – a celebration of the continuously judged.”

“These people are doing what they need to for their hustle, and whenever there’s a woman fighting for survival I’m going to celebrate her and make her voice heard,” added Sanelly. I want to change the narrative of clubs being perceived as foul spaces, and turn them into a space of liberation – to teach respectful culture, and tell people to come correct to witness the beauty and the hustle of the underrepresented.”

Stream the single below and pre-order ‘Phases’.

As well as playing two sets at this year’s The Great Escape in Brighton, Sanelly will make her London debut at London’s Village Underground on 10th May.
