The long-anticipated sequel to MF DOOM and Madlib’s 2004 album ‘Madvillainy’ was “85% done” at the time of the iconic artist’s death.

Following news that MF DOOM passed away on 31st October 2020 aged 49, the founder of Stones Throw Records, Peanut Butter Wolf, confirmed the follow-up to ‘Madvillainy’ had been close to completion.

Speaking as a guest on the Juan Ep Is Dead podcast, the label founder – real name Christopher George Manak – said, “DOOM was always telling me ‘It’s 85% done, it’s 85% done.’ That was the magic number.”

Reflecting on the delay on the follow-up after some promising movement in 2009, Manak said, “I got a little frustrated, and I was just like, you know, ‘It’s gonna happen when it’s gonna happen.’ I don’t wanna be the guy to force creativity or anything.”

The label boss added that should he decide to release any of the material, he has the blessing of DOOM’s family.

Since its release in 2004, ‘Madvillainy’ has featured among many greatest album lists, including 365 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Musician, producer and Brainfeeder head Flying Lotus also recently revealed that he was working on an EP with the iconic and enigmatic rapper.
