Marshall Jefferson and Byron Stingily return as Ten City with first new music in 25 years

Ten City are set to return with their first new music in 25 years.

The dance group, made up of legendary house producer Marshall Jefferson and Chicago-born vocalist Byron Stingily, first formed in 1987, and released a slew of classics like ‘That’s The Way Love Is’ and ‘Devotion’.

Now, for the first time in 25 years, the duo have announced they will reunite as Ten City, with a brand new house and disco hybrid: ‘Be Free’.

“’Be Free’ encompasses the spirit of dance and house music,” Stingily said of the new track. “Many times people focus on our differences but ‘Be Free’ speaks to how we are more alike than different. It is a song about respecting and appreciating our differences.”

You can listen to ‘Be Free’, which is out now via Ultra Music, below.

It’s true that house music would still exist if Marshall Jefferson hadn’t been around to guide it — but it’s equally correct to say that without Jefferson, its sound and its traditions would have evolved far differently.
