Marie Davidson announces new album, ‘City Of Clowns’, shares ‘Sexy Clown’: Listen
Marie Davidson has announced her sixth studio album, ‘City Of Clowns’, set for release on 28th February via Soulwax’s DEEWEE label.
Co-written and produced with Soulwax and Pierre Guerineau, the album marks a new chapter for the Canadian DJ-producer, blending club-ready energy with experimental pop structures.
Today’s announcement is accompanied by Davidson’s new single, ‘Sexy Clown’, which explores themes of authenticity and perception. “You like it when I’m mean, you like it Sexy? Don’t get it confused, cuz I do it for me,” she remarks in the single, which arrives with a lo-fi video shot in Milan.
“Most people have a clown inside of them,” Davidson said. “Some are funny, some are shy, some are twisted, some are dark. The clown is the part of us that is dying to be seen, for better or for worse.”
‘City Of Clowns’ sees Davidson revisiting the techno and spoken-word delivery of her 2018 album ‘Working Class Woman’, while incorporating the melodic sensibilities of her 2020 release, ‘Renegade Breakdown.’ “It’s definitely linking back to what I was doing pre-pandemic, but with a bit of an evolution,” Davidson says. “I didn’t want to just repeat myself.”
The album is influenced by Davidson’s reflections on the impact of technology, inspired by Shoshana Zuboff’s book The Age of Surveillance Capitalism. “It’s changing the way we live,” she says. “It’s literally changing our species – the way we interact with each other, and the way we interact with ourselves.”
Earlier this year, Davidson debuted on DEEWEE with the single ‘Y.A.A.M. (Your Asses Are Mine)’ and followed it with the club-focused ‘Contrarian’. The tracklist for ‘City Of Clowns’ includes these songs alongside new material such as ‘Push Me Fuckhead’ and ‘Statistical Modelling’.

Davidson will perform select DJ and live dates in early 2025, including stops at CTM Festival in Berlin, Grauzone Festival in The Hague, and the Empire Music Hall in Belfast.
The news comes a year on from Davidson, SHERELLE, Batu and more remixing Moderat on ‘MORE D4TA’.
