LYZZA announces new EP, ‘SUBSTATE’, shares ‘Blackball’: Listen

LYZZA has announced a new EP, ‘SUBSTATE’ and shared its first single.

Slated for release on May 24th via her own imprint, CLUB LYZZA, the new EP follows up on LYZZA’s ‘MOSQUITO’ mixtape which debuted on Ninja Tune’s sister label, Big Dada, back in 2022.

Lyrically, the the Brazilian-born, Amsterdam-based artist’s new EP explores themes such as racial profiling, both within the creative and public spheres, music industry politics, and a professional disregard for emotional labour. “This EP is a collection of moments where I felt affected and frustrated by social rules and laws that are made to reinforce systems of inequality,” she added.

Last summer, LYZZA dropped a single and video for her track ‘MK Ultrasound’, also released via her eponymous CLUB LYZZA imprint. You can watch the music video for the track – described as an “electric clash of intuition and pop-punk energy” – here

‘Blackball’, the high-energy first track from the upcoming four-track EP is out now. Check it out below.
