Loraine James releases new album, 'Building Something Beautiful For Me', on Phantom Limb: Listen

Loraine James has released her new album, ‘Building Something Beautiful For Me’.

Out today (7th October) on Phantom Limb, it’s her third album to date after 2019’s ‘For You And I’ and 2021’s ‘Reflection’. The new record sees James pay homage to the work of the US composer Julius Eastman, who died aged 49 in 1990 in relative obscurity and has seen a resurgence of recognition in recent years.

‘Building Something Beautiful For Me’, which was first announced in July, came about after the team at Phantom Limb put James in touch with Eastman’s surviving brother Gerry. From there, she was given access to a collection of stems of Eastman’s music, as well as other elements of his archives and a 2015 biography of his life and work, ‘Gay Guerilla’, by Renee Levine-Packer and Mary Jane Leach.

You can check out the full album below, and get it on Bandcamp here.

‘Building Something Beautiful For Me’ is James’ second album of the year after she debuted the alias Whatever The Weather with a full-length record in April.
