Lafawndah releases Happa-produced single in aid of Iranian human rights organisation

Lafawndah has released a new single in support of women’s rights in Iran.

The Paris-raised artist – who is of Iranian, Egyptian and English descent – released ‘The Dawn Of Everything (Jin, Jiyan,Azadi)’ in aid of The Center for Human Rights in Iran (CHRI).

Released on Friday, 4th November, all proceeds from the track will go to the independent and not-for-profit organisation, and is dedicated to 22-year-old Mahsa Amini – also known as Jina Amini -whose death in police custody in September sparked protests for women’s rights and freedom in Iran.

Co-written with Cecile Believe, ‘The Dawn Of Everything (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi)’ was produced by half-Iranian producer and DJ Happa, real name Samir Alikhanizadeh, and features artwork by Iranian artist Mamali Shahafi. Stream it below and go here to buy.

In a statement, Lafawndah said:”This song was born between unlearning the past and watching the future unfold. It’s dedicated to the people of Iran and their bravery in rising up after the murder of Jina Amini. A lullaby for the tremors that rise when a new life starts to feel possible against all odds – Jin Jiyan Azadi.”

The release of the track comes two months after Palestinian station Radio AlHara broadcast two 12-hour specials to show solidarity with protests in Iran and Kurdistan following the death of Amini,

Last July, Lafawndah – born Yasmine Dubois – was among several artists who contributed to a compilation for Medical Aid for Palestinians.
