Kojey Radical releases mini-doc celebrating youth centre's music initiative: Watch

Kojey Radical has linked up with a youth club he used to attend, Rise 365, for a new mini-documentary exploring the work that the youth organisation does.

The six-minute film, ‘Through Music We Rise’, explores the music and creative initiatives that Rise 365, also previously attended by Ghetts, is undertaking in order to help young people living on and around East London’s Kingsmead Estate. It also looks at the importance of young people having these spaces to express themselves and create as they grow up.

The film has been released against a backdrop of youth centres across various inner cities being underfunded and subsequently closed down, and the project is the culmination of a grassroots mentorship programme funded by the Dr. Martens Tough As You initiative.

As part of the initiative, a music workshop series was launched for local people, and ‘Through Music We Rise’ documents a day in the life of six young musicians involved in the workshops which Kojey Radical helped with.

Speaking about his involvement in the initiative, Kojey Radical said: “You can’t beat that youthful excitement to be here – if you can give that opportunity to young people that really want it and you can see and feel that hunger, that’s what it’s about. It’s inspiring for me; it’s inspiring to them and it’s only going to do good things in the long run.”

The film, which you can watch below, was directed and produced by Ade Femzo, one of the young people associated with Rise 365.

Kojey Radical released his debut album, ‘Reason To Smile’, earlier this year.
