Kid Cudi to direct and star in new Netflix movie, Teddy

Kid Cudi is set to direct and star in a new Netflix movie.

Titled Teddy, the movie marks the directorial debut by the American rapper and singer-songwriter, born Scott Mescudi. Co-produced by Jay-Z and The Harder They Fall filmmaker Jeymes Samuel among others, the film – which was also written by Cudi – has been in the works since 2013. A release date for is yet to be announced.

Speaking about the film, Cudi said: “The road has been long, from it being a tv show for years to finally being a film. So it means so fuckin much to finally be able to bring it to the screen next year, and I cant wait for u all to meet Teddy, his friends, his family and take a walk in his world for a bit.

“If I could sum up what the movie is about in one sentence, id say this: It’s as if I took the song “Pursuit of Happiness” and wrote a movie about it.”

Cudi shared details about the production via his Instagram page on 22nd March.

While it’s his debut feature-length film as a director, Cudi is no stranger to the big screen. As well as featuring in films such as A24’s XDon’t Look Up, and Bill & Ted Face the Music, the 38-year-old is set to star in Brittany Snow’s forthcoming movie September 17th. He was also recently the subject of the Amazon Prime documentary A Man Named Scott.

Cudi will release his eighth studio album Entergalactic later this year, the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Man on the Moon III: The Chosen’. It will be accompanied by a Netflix adult animated series of the same name.
