!K7 acquired by Create Music Group
Berlin-based record label !K7 has been acquired by Create Music Group.
Financial terms for the deal have not been publicly disclosed, but label CEO Tom Nieuweboer said it “marks an exciting new chapter” for !K7. “It will allow us to scale our vision while staying true to our core values of independent artistry, innovation and quality,” he added.
The deal comes two months on from the death of !K7 founder Horst Weidenmüller, but the changing of hands is reported to have had his approval. In a statement penned before his passing, he said: “This transition is a deeply personal one for me. But I know that with Create Music Group, !K7 is in the right hands.”
Create Music Group is a Los Angeles-based distribution, publishing and data analytics company. It has acquired full or partial stakes in a number of companies in recent months, including labels and publishers Ostereo and Enhanced.
“Horst was a special music entrepreneur who built !K7 over 40 years into a globally renowned brand,” Create Music Group CFO William Smith said in a statement. “Long before he passed, we spent many hours discussing ways that we could invest more into !K7 to help the business reach new heights, while also preserving the culture and principles that make the business so unique.”
!K7 has released music by the likes of Kerri Chandler, DJ Tennis, CCL, SUCHI, Ciel and Michael Mayer, among many, many others, and also oversees the long-running ‘DJ-Kicks’ mix series, with recent contributions coming from the likes of HAAi, Honey Dijon, DJ Boring and Logic1000 .
