Jitwam shares video for new album track, ‘Hey Papi’: Watch
Chalo co-founder Jitwam has shared a video for his new album track, slow-burning groover ‘Hey Papi’.
The new single is taken from ‘Third’, the forthcoming album by the self-proclaimed “psychedelic soul savant”, which is due to land on 22nd July via Roya.
Speaking about the album, Jitwam said: “Confidence is that swag in your step. A mantra to your true self to get up and shake the cosmic blues from your head to your toes. A psychedelic Brazilian samba-funk odyssey to wake up your booty, and wake up your mind. All u gotta, is do it once now…”
Check out the video for ‘Hey Papi’, which “brings to life Jitwam’s laid-back approach to elements of house funk with movements that shift in energy with the song’s progression,” below. You can also peep the LP artwork.
Jitwam hails from Assam in northeast India, was raised in Australia, and is now based between New York, London, and Sydney. As well as co-founding Chalo – an interdisciplinary creative project with a focus on South Asia and its diaspora – he runs The Jazz Diaries label and has remixed Laraaji, collaborated with Folamour, and had a track on ‘Fabric Presents… Maribou State’ compilation.
Earlier this year, he dropped new single ‘Brooklyn Ballers’, also on Roya, which he described “as a homage to the city in all its hustle and bustle. The magic in the air, that can make dreams come true and can turn your fears into your worst nightmares”.
