iZotope announces new ‘intelligent’ delay plugin, Cascadia

iZotope has announced a new delay plugin called Cascadia. The new plug is part of the Catalyst ‘intelligent’ audio plugin suite and uses AI to help prevent masking when using its delay effect.

While delay is very popular among producers, often when duplicating a signal multiple times, the new delayed audio can mask the original signal resulting in a cloudy and confused mix. Cascadia aims to solve this by ‘carving out’ space for the dry signal in real-time to ensure it remains front and centre. How much space you give to the original dry signal can be adjusted using the plugin’s controls, including a traditional dry/wet knob and an Unmask slider.

Elsewhere on the plugin, users can adjust the frequency response of the wet signal via high-pass and low-pass filter controls, as well as the sensitivity and response time of the intelligent masking. There’s also a ping-pong button for stereo delays, and Cascadia can either be sync’d to the tempo of your DAW project, or it can be used freely for more freeform delay timings. There’s a total of 50 presets for Cascadia covering sounds like vocals, percussion, keys, guitar, bass and more.

iZotope Cascadia is available now and costs €55. You can find out more on the iZotope website. The audio technology company has been busy recently, having announced version five of its intelligent mixing suite, Neutron, earlier this month (October).
