Ibiza opens for tourists as Balearics are added to UK green travel list

News

Ibiza has been added to the UK’s green travel list.

Yesterday (24th), Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced the destinations being added to the UK government’s green travel list, with Ibiza and the Balearic islands among the countries to be included.

From the 30th June at 4AM, anyone entering the UK from Ibiza and the other destinations on the list will not be required to quarantine, but will still be required to take a COVID-19 test before travelling, book and pay for the day 2 COVID-19 test on arrival back in the country, and complete a passenger locator form.

Implemented as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the UK government’s traffic light system for foreign travel has different rules regarding quarantine and COVID tests. Australia, Barbados, Israel, New Zealand and Gibraltar are also currently on the UK’s green list.

Later today (25th), Ibiza will host its first COVID-19 test club event at the Hard Rock Hotel, with attendance limited to 2,000 key workers. If successful, authorities expect the White Island clubs to return with significant restrictions on opening times and dancefloor capacities, These include a 3AM curfew to keep in line with the Spanish Ministry of Health, and limitations on dance floor capacities. Unsurprisingly, Abone, the Balearic Business Association, is pushing for 4AM or 6AM closing times.

Some clubs and promoters in Ibiza have already revealed plans for later on in the season, with Darius Syrossian’s Do Not Sleep event the latest to announce a closing party at Amnesia in October alongside Cinthie, Patrick Topping and Paul Woolford.
