History of vinyl turntable design explored in new book

Publisher Phaidon Press is putting out a book about the history of vinyl turntable designs.

Penned by Gideon Schwartz, the 264-page hardback book, ‘Revolution, The History Of Turntable Design’, is said to explore the “design, history and cultural impact of turntables and vinyl technology”. Featuring more than 300 illustrations, it covers turntable designs from the 1950s through to the present day.

The book is priced at £74.95 and available for pre-order via Phaidon Press’ website ahead of its 13th October publish date. It’s described as an “essential book for audiophiles, collectors and design fans”.

Earlier this year, a book exploring how Record Store Day has influenced the resurgence of vinyl was released.

This assessment of the booming industry came in the wake of news from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) that more than five million vinyl records were sold in 2021, an increase of 8% since 2020. This made up 23% of all albums sold in the UK – also the highest figure in three decades – and marked the 14th year in a row that vinyl sales had been on an upward trend.
