gyrofield announces new EP, ‘These Heavens’, on XL Recordings
gyrofield will debut on XL Recordings with a new EP, ‘These Heavens’, later this month. Listen to the first single below.
Following releases for Metalheadz, Critical and Deadbeats, the Hong Kong-born, Bristol-based artist continues to push the limits of drum & bass with a new EP as part of XL’s house bag series. Set for release on 30th August, ‘These Heavens’ encompasses four new tracks exploring “the universe and the beauty of nature”, with influences spanning “electro and techno… to synth ambient, post-rock, and experimental pop”.
The first single ‘Lagrange’ is out today (13th August), inspired in part by the Death Stranding soundtrack, and featuring atmospheric vocals and synth work. Listen to the track below.
Speaking further the inspiration behind the EP, gyrofield shared: “I see a lot of value in creating danceable music that also touches base on atmospheric and spaced-out sounds, key use of instrumentation, and composition to provide a complement to the beats and energy of the music.”
“The four tracks that make up this EP are about the very human emotions and thoughts that drive the rigorous disciplines of science,” they added. “We seek knowledge and to understand the stars and universe above us, even though they operate lifelessly, and on such a vast scale. We put our love and dreams into understanding the heavens, hoping that one day we can be amongst them.”
Since moving from Hong Kong to Bristol to study music in 2020, the producer has released a total of eight EPs, making appearances on labels including Overview Music, Pilot., and Victorious. Most recently, gyrofield released ‘The B’ EP on Noisia’s VISION imprint, described as “cold music for cold people for the return of warmth & light.”
gyrofield is also gearing up to play her biggest-ever shows this Autumn including a debut Warehouse Project show and an appearance at Overmono’s Pure Devotion takeover of The Prospect Building.
‘These Heavens’ is out 30th August on XL Recordings. Pre-save/order the EP here, and check out the first single ‘Lagrange’ below.
