Four Tet explores John Peel’s record collection for new BBC Radio 6 show: Listen

Four Tet has explored legendary radio presenter John Peel’s record collection for a new BBC Radio 6 show.

The London producer – real name Kieran Hebden – was invited to be a guest on Peel Acres with Tom Ravenscroft, who is the eldest of the late Peel’s two sons. A veteran DJ who discovered dozens of major bands during a career lasting over 40 years, John Peel died in 2004, aged 65.

As part of the show – which has previously featured guests including Damon Albarn and Nabihah Iqbal – Hebden was asked to select six records from Peel’s collection, which contains approximately 120,000 records. Among the London producer’s choices were tracks by artists including Caleb, The 13th Floor Elevators and Nirvana.

Posting on Instagram, Hebden said: “It was an incredible thing to see and they have made a radio show about my visit that you can now hear on BBC 6 Music, I grew up listening to John Peel so very proud to have been asked to do this.”

Check out Hebden’s full post and some visual insight into his choices below. Listen back to the episode here. Last week, Four Tet and Burial finally released their cult favourite collaborative tracks ‘Moth’ and ‘Nova’ digitally for the first time.

Earlier this month, several Four Tet albums returned to streaming services after he signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Group.
