Flavor Flav submits bid to be a torchbearer at 2028 Olympics
Public Enemy star Flavor Flav has submitted a bid to be among the torchbearers at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Real name William Drayton, the rapper revealed that he submitted the official application to be a torchbearer in the 2028 Games on iHeart’s Politickin podcast – hosted by California’s Gov. Gavin Newsom, former NFL star Marshawn Lynch and agent Doug Hendrickson – on Wednesday (28th August). The move would see him following the lead of Snoop Dogg and Pharrell, who both carried the flame in Paris.
“Guess what? I got a feeling I might be one of them,” he said. “I put my bid in already. I said, ‘If Snoop can carry the torch inParis — come on, man — Flav can carry that bad boy in L.A.,’ and Snoop did a fantastic job, man.”
Flav proved a hit with viewers and athletes alike in his role as sponsor and official hype man for the US Womens Water Polo Team at the 2024 Paris Games. Among his acts of generosity for the team was a pledge of a $1000 bonus for players and a cruise.
The pioneering hype man was also applauded for offering financial aid to track and field athlete Veronica Fraley who was struggling to pay her rent.
He also shared a GoFundMe campaign raising money for three-times gold medal winning sprinter Nick Mayhugh when the Paralympian’s family were unable to attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It has been speculated that Flavor Flav’s bid might be connected to the news that Snoop Dogg reportedly earned $9 million from his Olympic appearances.

The Paralympics, which kicked off yesterday (28th August), has scheduled its closing ceremony for Sunday, 8th September. Among the announced acts are Alan Braxe, Kittin, Jean-Michel Jarre, along with the first live appearance of Cassius since the passing of Philippe Zdar in 2019.
