Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried Records celebrates 500th release with ‘Role Model’

Fatboy Slim’s label, Southern Fried Records, is celebrating its 500th release with the track ‘Role Model’. Check it out below.

Established in 1994 by Fatboy Slim, aka Norman Cook, and Gary Blackburn, the label has put out a wide range of hits over the past three decades. These include Ashley Beedle’s remix for Elton John’s ‘Are You Ready For Love’, as well as Armand Van Helden’s tracks ‘My My My’ and ‘I Want Your Soul’.

The label’s inaugural release was ‘Super Disco Breaks’ under Norman’s Mighty Dub Katz alias. Other early releases featured tracks from Space Cowboy, Kurtis Mantronix, and Scanty Sandwich.

To mark its 500th release milestone, the label has released ‘Role Model feat. Dan Diamond & Luca Guerrieri’, marking Fatboy Slim’s first original release this year. Set for full release on May 17th, the track will be accessible in both digital and physical formats, including a special edition acid-print vinyl limited to 500 copies. You can listen to it via Bandcamp below.

While Southern Fried Records has remained somewhat under the radar compared to its counterparts, its discography is impressive. Among the label’s extensive catalog are releases from artists such as Maribou State, Crookers, Eats Everything, and The Black Ghosts.

The imprint has continued to provide a platform for new artists throughout its three-decade-long journey, recently welcoming upcoming artists like Meg Ward, Van Damn, and Sam Girling.

Last month, the imprint hosted a party to celebrate its 500th release milestone. The day and night event, held at Akasha and Las Dalias in Ibiza, featured sets from Fatboy Slim, his Mighty Dub Katz alias, La La, Meg Ward, and other artists.

Earlier this year, BIMM University in Brighton awarded Cook with an honorary fellowship, coinciding with the launch of his new scholarship program. Late last year, the legendary DJ and producer also put out a 25th-anniversary reissue of his seminal 1998 album, ‘You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby’.
