fabric’s iconic CD mix series celebrated in 25th anniversary photography project

A new collaborative photography project between fabric and British artist Mark Vessey commemorates 25 years of the London nightlife institution via its CD mix series.

With CDs – drawn from both the ‘fabric’ and ‘fabriclive’ series – stacked on their sides, the photographer documents the scale and collectability of the physical compilations, which ran between 2001 and 2018. ‘fabric’ will be available to purchase for a limited period between 29th November and 2nd December.

Commenting on the artwork, Vessey said: “Being able to document the physical mix series for such a world renowned club and label is an honour. I hope to immortalise and distil the impact of their physical release series within my art, so much that it will be there to view on display in the club for future generations of clubbers to see.”

fabric co-founder Cameron Leslie said: “fabric has always been about culture, music culture, club culture, youth culture and art.”

He continued: “The artwork for our flyers across 25 years has always been progressive as too the artwork for our mix series. It makes sense that the physical CD compilations of fabric are documented and celebrated. We are thrilled to work with UK Mark Vessey, who will immortalise the collection for all to see.”

It follows the style of Vessey’s previous works, in which he documents physical objects and icons of pop culture, including magazines, books and records. He’s previously worked with the likes of Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox and Defected Records founder Simon Dunmore to highlight their collections.

Artists whose contributions Vessey has captured include the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Craig Richards, Ben UFO, Steffi, Robert Hood, Ellen Allien, Zip, Kode9 & Burial, Swayzak and Calibre.
