Drum & bass track released to raise awareness around bowel health: Listen
A new drum & bass track has been released to raise awareness around bowel health and conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
The rather interestingly titled ‘IBS (I Be Shitting)’ is the work of Spain-born, Liverpool-based producer Glitchgirl, who suffers from acute Crohn’s disease, and its release this week coincides with Crohn’s & Colitis Awareness Week.
The ravey drum & bass roller is loaded with fart noises but its release via Welsh label 1 More Thing aims to start conversations around how the club and electronic music scene can be more accommodating of those who suffer bowel-related health conditions.
To accompany the track’s release, the 1 More Thing platform has also published an article featuring interviews with DJs and producers who discuss their experiences of bowel health conditions, and the importance of raising awareness of these issues within the electronic music scene.
Speaking in the piece, Glitchgirl, aka Alicia Muñiz, said: “So many people fight it, but nobody talks about it. People can’t physically notice something is wrong with you so they don’t accommodate your needs or see that they might need prioritizing. They only do when you explain to them. And that can be embarrassing. A lot of people instead will suffer in silence and make themselves in more pain and discomfort.”

50% of all the proceeds from the release of the track will be donated to Bowel Research UK.
