Dimitri Vegas plays vinyl-only surprise set at Tomorrowland’s The Gathering stage

Dimitri Vegas helped get Tomorrowland’s second week off the ground last night (Thursday, 25th July) with a surprise vinyl-only set played at The Gathering stage.

Marking the festival’s official open-air opening party for weekend two, The Gathering also took in surprise sets from Afrojack, Amelie Lens and Nicky Romero, among others.

Dimitri Vegas’ set saw him draw for hard, gabber-esque techno while ironically sporting a T-shirt with the slogan ‘Nobody listens to techno’. Afrojack, meanwhile, unleashed the kind of EDM characteristic of his sets for the gathered crowd.

Amelie Lens’ set drew on the hard and fast techno sounds she’s known for, including music from her own EXHALE label.

You can see video clips from Dimitri Vegas, Afrojack and Amelie Lens’ sets below.

With weekend two of festivities kicking off properly today (Friday, 26th July), Tomorrowland has also shared a list of the 10 most played tracks at last weekend’s event, including cuts from Tomcraft, Swedish House Mafia, Chase & Status.

Other highlights from weekend one included Armin van Buuren performing with Pendulum singer Rob Swire; Swedish House Mafia’s first Tomorrowland set since 2012; an EDM classics set from Hardwell, featuring tracks chosen by his fans; Oliver Heldens paying an emotional tribute to Avicii during his performance, and Alok recording an official video for his new track, ‘Allein Allein’, live on stage.

9-year-old DJ Archie also became the youngest DJ to ever perform at the festival, facilitated by the Tomorrowland Academy. Watch DJ Mag’s video interview with DJ Archie here.
