De La Soul on recording new album: “It feels right”

De La Soul’s Maseo has discussed the group’s plans for a new album.

The rapper revealed that a new record is in the works that will see them reunite with Prince Paul, who produced their first three albums. “It feels right,” he said of reconnecting with their collaborator, in an interview with AllHipHop.

Maseo also spoke about an upcoming third instalment of De La Soul’s ‘Art Official Intelligence’ series, which has been in the works for years and still has no official release date.

“As fast as I would love for it to come out, I can’t really rush the creative process, because I want that shit to be fire,” the rapper said. “I’m really excited about the music we’ve been creating. There’s a lot on our plate. We’ve kind of got a lot of good problems here lately. We’re just trying to keep up with all these great opportunities. Right at the helm is creating music.”

The projects are now being worked on by De La Soul’s two surviving members, Maseo and Posdnuos, following the death in 2023 of the group’s Trugoy The Dove.

The group’s back catalogue was made available for streaming for the first time in 2023, following years of notable absence from various platforms.
