Daytimers’ yourboykiran & Chandé share new remix of Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl's ‘Aisha’: Listen

Daytimers’ yourboykiran and Chandé have shared a new remix of Rabii Harnoune & V.B.Kühl’s ‘Aisha’ via Tru Thoughts. Check it out below.

The duo’s reworking blends the traditional North African Gnawa music of the original with elements of UK Funky and Kuduro, an uptempo take on dance music developed in Angola in the 1980s. Listen below.

Forming part of the team behind Daytimers, a collective that aims to celebrate South Asian artistry, yourboykiran and Chandé are DJs, producers, cultural facilitators and collaborators.

In a statement, the latter said of the new remix: “[It’s] the chance for myself and yourboykiran to collaborate for the first time again since ‘Pani Puri Pirates’ and the Daytimers Compilation, whilst also having this rich source material of Rabii Harnoune & V.B Kühl’s electronic interpretation of Moroccan Gnawa music and to do so for Tru Thoughts, definitely created a lot of anticipation and excitement for the both of us.”

Translated to “she is living”, ‘Aisha’ is also a mythological figure in northern Moroccan folklore. “She is considered as a jinn – supernatural creatures in early pre-Islamic Arabian religious systems and later in Islamic mythology and theology,” said Harnoune. “In Gnawa culture, Aisha is considered to be one of the greatest women in history; the song is an ode to her strength and courageousness, while appreciation for her pursuit in supporting the oppressed and punishing the oppressor.”

Yourboykiran’s new track, ‘Throw Your Hands In The Air’, featured in fellow Daytimers member Gracie T’s recent DJ Mag Selections feature celebrating sounds from the South Asian underground. Check that out here.
