Dark Entries announces new EP of unreleased Patrick Cowley music
Dark Entries is lining up another instalment of its ongoing series of Patrick Cowley archive releases.
‘Malebox’ takes in six disco tracks produced by the late artist between 1978 and 1981, which was, according to a press release, “one of Patrick’s most creatively exciting periods”. It was announced this week to coincide with what would have been Cowley’s birthday, while the EP itself will be released on 12th November, the 40th anniversary of his death.
The EP includes demo versions of tracks made for disco singers Paul Parker and Loverde, as well as an early version of the Cowley track ‘Low Down Dirty Rhythm’, featuring vocals from US disco vocalist Jeanie Tracy. You can listen to preview of the record’s six tracks below.
Dark Entries began working with Cowley’s surviving family and friends to share some of his rare and unheard material in 2009. The series has included reissues and collections of previously unreleased music by the artist, who passed away in 1982. The most recent release in the series was 2020’s ‘Some Funkettes’, which was comprised of disco and funk covers that Cowley produced in the mid-’70s.
