Daft Punk to score for new film from Dario Argento

News

Daft Punk are teaming up Italian director Dario Argento, providing the score to his new film Occhiali Neri (Black Glasses).

In an interview with La Republica, the Suspiria (1977) and Inferno filmmaker revealed that the French duo had reached out to him about collaborating when they learned he was working on a new feature. The score will be Daft Punk’s first collection of music since 2013’s Random Access Memories, which went on to be the best-selling dance music vinyl LP of the last decade, with ‘Get Lucky’ being named the fourth most listened to song of the decade.

The film is set in Rome and the surrounding countryside. “It will be my return to crime films,” he said, according to a translation if the interview in The Film Stage. “It’s the adventure, in the nocturnal Rome, of a Chinese girl and child. In the second part, the escape takes them into the rocky, bushy countryside of Lazio. [It’s] different from the sweetness of the Tuscan valleys, but for me beautiful.”

Argento said that Daft Punk described the script as one of Argento’s “most interesting”. They are set to send him some of the new music soon, and are reportedly planning to meet Argento in Rome once lockdown restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic are eased. Filming for Occhiali Neri is scheduled to commence in September.
