Daft Punk join TikTok

Daft Punk have officially joined TikTok.

The duo now have a direct deal with the platform that gives fans access to music from their back catalogue for use in their video creations. Daft Punk, aka Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, have held onto the rights to their music since the ’90s.

TikTok users can also apply two Daft Punk-themed filters to their TikTok videos; a customisable robot helmet and Charles, the anthropomorphised dog from the Spike Jonze-directed 1997 video for their track ‘Da Funk’.

According to France24, the duo will be posting content on the channel, including elements from their 1993 to 2011 career.

In other Daft Punk news, a number of books about the robots are scheduled for release, including a book about their classic 2001 album ‘Discovery’ later this year. Journalist Gabriel Szatan has also penned After Daft, set to be published in 2023, which explores the iconic duo’s 28-year legacy, and wider cultural impact. Publisher Disco Pogo have also announced We Are The Robots, which will land in March next year.

Earlier this year, a virtual reality experience based around the live performances of the pair debuted in Los Angeles and a remastered version of their ‘Revolution 909’ music video along with some archival footage was unveiled. Back in April, they launched a new website, which is now embedded with their first TikTok post.
