Community-owned venue and radio station Sister Midnight starts broadcasting from new studio
South London-based, co-operative organisation and radio station Sister Midnight has started broadcasting from a new physical studio space.
Set to become the focal point of its community radio station, the temporary space will be integrated into the community music venue that Sister Midnight is currently establishing nearby.
Broadcasting from its new space, Sister Midnight FM (SMFM) will have a unique focus on South-East London and maintain its previous commitment to benefiting the local community, while also upholding values of inclusivity.
In a statement, the organisation said: “Sister Midnight FM is heading into a new physical chapter! We are so excited to have a space that we can broadcast from, use for workshops and a place for our community to grow whilst we are building our venue down the road in Catford! We’re so excited to see how the station grows and to have a way for local people to get creatively involved with our work!”
The station has also added a selection of new residents to its roster, which you can check out below.
SMFM can be listened to online here.
Sister Midnight – founded by Lottie Pendlebury, Lenny Watson and Sophie Farrell – has been campaigning to create Lewisham’s first community-owned music venue since 2021, undertaking various crowdfunding efforts to make the aim a reality. This year, the organisation has secured a 10-year lease for a venue in Catford and is now in the process of transforming it into a grassroots venue.
Sister Midnight FM launched in 2023 amid the group’s efforts to drive for opening a physical venue.
