Closet Yi announces new EP, ‘Wire Broke’, on Hotflush, shares single: Listen

Closet Yi is back on Hotflush Recordings with a new EP called ‘Wire Broke’. Listen to lead track ‘Moeh’ below.

The Seoul artist will follow up 2022’s ‘Simmer‘, her first release on Scuba’s label, with five new tracks. ‘Wire Broke’, due out on 8th September, will mesh her emotional and introspective tendencies with acid-and rave-influenced production.

“I find it funny how this track has many angles, emotion-wise”, Closet Yi said of lead single ‘Moeh’. “Sometimes it feels exciting and cute, but other times it sounds quite deep and raging. I’ve been going through some mixed feelings the past year, with some of the best moments in my life, but also very destructive ones too, so I think this is all dissolved in little bits in a self-reflective way.”

Closet Yi recently featured on Peggy Gou’s first annual ‘Gudu & Friends’ compilation alongside Lady Blacktronika, Hiver, DMX Krew and more.

Last year, Closet Yi also released the ‘Bmore Baby’ EP to launch London label Curving Track. She’s also put out music on labels like No Bad Days, Silkroad Sounds and Honey Badger Records.

DJ Mag’s Eoin Murray caught up with Closet Yi in 2021 for the Fresh Kicks series — revisit the exclusive mix and interview, in which they talk about video game music, Seoul venue Pistil, worldbuilding and more.
