Berlin’s Watergate returns with open-air summer party series

Famed Berlin nightclub Watergate, which shut at the end of last year, has announced its return with four open-air parties at Sage Beach Berlin this summer.

The event series, titled Don’t Stop The Dance, launches on 24th May with headliner Chris Luno followed by the second edition on 11th June with Bedouin, Andhim and JAMIIE. Line-ups for parties on 5th July and 16th August are yet to be announced.

The club closed its doors at the end of 2024, not long after celebrating its 20th anniversary, due to financial pressure and what co-founder Ulrich Wombacher said was an increased public attraction to larger festivals and venues.

Speaking to Resident Advisor at the time, Wombacher elaborated on the pressures faced by the venue in recent years and why they made the decision to close: “Unfortunately, the realities of inflation, the energy crisis, rising costs in general, and, not least, the high rent for this beautiful location in the heart of the city at Oberbaumbrücke on the Spree, caught up with us. We’re facing enormous financial pressure, which ultimately led us to the decision not to extend the club’s lease.”

The venue’s label, Watergate Records, remains in operation.
