Beastie Boys announce Champion collaboration to celebrate 50 years of hip-hop

Beastie Boys have announced a new collaboration with US sportswear giant Champion as part of the ongoing celebrations for hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, and to mark 25 years of the group’s seminal album, ‘Hello Nasty’.

Clothing will feature iconic imagery from the group’s videos and release artwork, along with the brand’s signature look. The iconic reverse weave line of hoodies, sweatshirts, and basketball tops helped define the look of hip-hop from its early days, and appear in countless movies, videos and photos that have documented the scene.

In addition to the Beastie Boys range, Champion has also unveiled a Naughty By Nature collection, marking three decades since the outfit released ‘Hip Hop Hooray’. The single’s video, directed by Spike Lee, featured the trio and Queen Latifah donning Baseball Bat Reverse Weave sweatshirts, which have now been revived for 2023.

Last month, Beastie Boys reissued ‘Hello Nasty’ on vinyl to mark its quarter centenary, packaging the full album with 21 bonus tracks, including b-sides, live recordings and remixes.
