Axtone Records acquired by Pophouse, Axwell to remain as creative advisor and partner

Axtone Records has been acquired by Pophouse Entertainment. Founder, label boss and Swedish House Mafia member Axwell will stay on as creative advisor and partner at the imprint.

The Stockholm-based parent corporation is already hugely influential in music, events and gaming. It previously acquired Swedish House Mafia’s back catalogue for an undisclosed sum in 2022.

A year later, the firm, run by ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus and Conni Johnson of Scandinavian investment giant EQT Partners AB, picked up the rights to all songs and the intellectual property of US rock legends Kiss for $300 million. It has not been confirmed how much money changed hands in the Axtone deal.

“The partnership with Axtone is already in operation and opens new avenues for creative and commercial development, including supporting Axtone with specialist resources and industry knowledge to accelerate the label and catalogue’s growth and to enable Swedish House Mafia to realise more of their exciting music projects,” read a statement from Pophouse. It added that Axwell “will remain very involved in supporting Axtone’s talent as well as continuing to release new material.”

In March, Axwell will make his solo headline debut at Ultra Miami.
