Avicii’s ‘Hey Brother’ hits a billion streams, new interview with Dan Tyminski shared: Watch

Avicii’s ‘Hey Brother’ has reached 1 billion streams on Spotify, almost a decade after its release. Watch a new interview with featured vocalist Dan Tyminski on the milestone achievement.

Initially released in 2013 as a single from his debut album, ‘True’, ‘Hey Brother’ has become the fifth track by the late Swedish artist to surpass 1 billion streams. The single is particularly known for its fusion of EDM with elements of bluegrass (American roots music) and folk, which has made it a favourite amongst Avicii’s extensive back catalogue.

American singer-songwriter Dan Tyminski — who performed the distinctive vocals on ‘Hey Brother’ — has revealed his experience working on the track in a new interview.

“I fell in love with the song immediately, as soon as I heard it,” Tyminski shared in the video. “…I don’t think I’ll ever have the opportunity to record something that’s reached farther into the corners of the earth than ‘Hey Brother’.”

Tyminski was also amongst the performers at last year’s Avicii tribute concert, which took place at Stockholm’s Avicii Arena. The ‘Together For A Better Day’ showcase was hosted by the Tim Bergling Foundation, a suicide prevention and mental health organisation founded by Avicii’s parents following his death by suicide in 2018.

Last year, never-before-seen concert footage was released to mark the 10th anniversary of Avicii’s groundbreaking debut record, ‘True’. Shortly after, the album’s lead single ‘Wake Me Up’ was certified with diamond status after becoming the highest-performing dance single in history.

A new documentary about Avicii is set to premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, directed by Swedish filmmaker, Henrik Burman.

Earlier this month, Avicii’s final concert in his native Sweden was screened in Stockholm, following the launch of a brand new podcast, ‘from fans, for fans’, inspired by the artist’s legacy.
