Apple introduce new M1 chip iMacs & iPad Pros

News

Apple introduced a new model of iMac featuring their M1 chips at their Spring Loaded event on April 20th. The new iMacs come in a redesigned slim model, with seven different colours and an improved 1080p FaceTime camera. The base model features 8GB of RAM, 256GB of SSD storage and can be upgraded to 16GB of RAM and 2TB of SSD. The entry-level model has two USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, with a higher-end model adding two more USB-C ports. The headphone jack also remains. The new power cord also features an Ethernet port. The entry model starts at $1,299 and the higher-end, the four-port model starts at $1,499.

Initially, some were wary of adopting M1 computers until audio and DJ companies had caught up – since, Serato, Traktor, djay and rekordbox now all support the new processor.

Apple has also added the M1 chip to their iPad Pro tablet, giving it the same computing power as their desktop and laptop computers. Apple has also improved the camera, with up to 1,500 times the graphics power than the previous model. They’ve also added 5G support to cellular models. The 11-inch model starts at $799.

Finally, the long-awaited AirTags have been officially announced, that let you add Tile-style keyrings to anything you own, The Tags can then be tracked in iCloud’s Find My service, meaning whatever you attach them to doesn’t need to have Find My supported – such as a DJ’s USB stick or headphones. AirTags cost $29 each, or five can be bought for $99. Read more about the new products on Apple’s website.
