Anoushka Shankar announces new live album, ‘Between Us…’ on Nils Frahm’s LEITER label
Anoushka Shankar has announced a new live album, ‘Between Us…’, which arrives via Nils Frahm and Felix Grimm’s LEITER label on 8th July.
Embracing the spirit of collaboration for which the celebrated British-Indian-American sitar player is often known, the LP features Shankar’s regular collaborator and Hang (handpan) maestro Manu Delago alongside Holland’s Metropole Orkest directed by conductor and arranger Jules Buckley.
“I really feed off working creatively with others,” Shankar said. “Something turns on in collaboration, in chemistry, in connection. It can feel like a dance, like we’re in something together.”
“Nils is one of my favourite musicians in the world,” she said, speaking on LEITER. “I’ve been friends with him and Felix for seven years. I’ve worked with major labels for a while, and I’m in a place right now where I want to try a lot of things differently”.
‘Between Us…’ was recorded in 2018 during a stint of shows in the Netherlands and is her first live album since 2001’s ‘Live At Carnegie Hall’. It gleans material from four solo albums, 2005’s ‘Rise’, 2013’s ‘Traces of You’, 2015’s ‘Traveller’ and 2016’s ‘Land of Gold’, also featuring one previously unreleased track.
