Above & Beyond have surprise released a new album.
This morning (17th June), the London-based trance trio dropped the 17-track ‘Flow State: Healing With Nature’ via Anjunabeats. It arrives two years after the release of ‘Flow State’, an album the group described as “music tools for yoga, mindfulness and mental fitness”.
A new chapter, Flow State: Healing With Nature is a new collection of meditation tools and ambient field recordings “designed to elicit a deep state of relaxation and calm”. As well as an extended original piano piece set to an archival talk by famed yogi Elena Brower, the album includes four ambient soundscapes recorded in the forests of Finland. “After months of lockdowns and isolation, many of us have felt overwhelmed as we begin to return to social life,” says Paavo Siljamäki of the group. “Meditation practice can offer a great opportunity to center ourselves.”
“I began recording the sounds of nature at different times of the day and in different weather. I found these recordings healing, inspiring and calming. Taking them to the studio, I wanted to share this feeling with the world. So, we made these meditation tools to help others connect with nature, even those of us living a more urban lifestyle.”
Siljamäki also made an in-depth post on the band’s Instagram page, touching on the album writing process, as well as the “traumatic experience” of being ill with COVID-19 last year.
Last October, the trio shared their four-house Group Therapy 400 stream. Revisit it here.
