A pop-up record store giving away free vinyl is opening in London.

The shop, SMARTY Disc-overy, will open for one day only on 16th July at 19 Air Street in London’s Mayfair between 11am and 7pm. Each customer will be able to take away one complimentary vinyl record each, although they won’t know what it is until after they leave the building.

All the records being handed out are covered up in a bid to encourage people to broaden their listening habits and explore new artists and genres. Customers will be allowed to use listening stations once they have chosen their gift, while an in-store DJ spins tracks throughout the event.

The day after the SMARTY Disc-overy opening, Friday 17th July, will see the second drop of Record Store Day 2021 releases arrive in shops across the UK, including both new music and reissues. Meanwhile, a new documentary series, ‘Behind The Counter’, has just landed on YouTube, celebrating independent record store culture.
