92-track drum & bass compilation, ‘FLOODLIGHT’, is raising funds for Pakistan’s flood victims
A 92-track compilation of new and original drum & bass tracks is being released to raise money for the people of Pakistan, where flooding described by the UN as “a monsoon on steroids” has left around one-third of the total land area under water, almost 1700 people dead, and an estimated 33 million displaced.
The brainchild of Sri Lankan DJ and producer IYRE – a recent DJ Mag artist to watch — and regular studio and club cohort pyxis, ‘FLOODLIGHT’ arrives on Bandcamp this Friday, 7th October, and features work from artists including Dom & Roland, Etherwood, Digital, London Elektricity and Benny V. Meanwhile, the likes of Noiyse Project, Qwirk and Kubla bring broader sounds such as progressive house and breaks.
“In just four weeks, this incredible album has been pulled together with the tireless dedication of pyxis & IYRE, Sagar [Deshmukh] and artwork guru Sinjini Ghosh,” the press release reads. “There is a beautiful intersection with Asian artists who infused their authentic sounds across the journey to remind us this isn’t just music, it’s for a cause, and whilst the album is only £10, you can and we encourage you to pay more, as every penny will go to the charities supporting Pakistan right now.”
Pakistan’s monsoon season began in mid-July, but significantly heavier than usual rainfall and melting glaciers following a severe heatwave in the months prior have led to catastrophic flooding. The country remains in desperate need of support, with the UN recently increasing the target for an ongoing appeal to over $800million due to the extent of the devastation.
Over 2,000 hospitals and health centres have been damaged or destroyed, with 75% of land in the worst hit provinces still under water at the time of writing. Aid agencies and medical professionals on the ground have warned of a crisis within a crisis unfolding, as diseases such as cholera and dengue fever spread.
