86-year-old gran watches bagpipe rendition of Faithless 'Insomnia' by grandson’s band: Watch

A video of an 86-year-old gran stoically watching her grandson’s band perform a bagpipe rendition of ‘Insomnia’ by Faithless has emerged online.

Marjorie Lawrie was among the roughly 2,000 crowd members at the Drum ‘N’ Roses gig at the Houston Beer Festival in Renfrewshire, Scotland on Saturday (28th May) and can be seen with her arms folded down at the front looking “like she was queueing for the Post Office”, her grandson Craig Lawrie said.

The rest of the crowd are clearly going wild for the band’s bagpipe reimagining of the 1995 stone-cold rave anthem, but Craig said that he didn’t think “rave music and bagpipes is her thing. I think she just goes to offer her support.

“She stood there for a whole hour, she didn’t need a seat. She has two hearing aids and had to turn them down, she doesn’t get to see the band live very often,” Craig said. Watch the video below.

After providing official remixes for Faithless’ first album in over a decade, last year the American DJ and producer Maceo Plex released his reworks of ‘Insomnia’, after first teasing the tracks in 2019.
