4,900 people were injured in Astroworld tragedy, new filing reveals
Nearly 5,000 people are claiming they suffered injuries at Travis Scott’s 2020 Astroworld festival, where 10 people died, according to a new Houston county court filing.
Rolling Stone reports that in addition to the 10 lives lost, all due to compression asphyxia, in the fatal crowd rush, 732 people reported injuries that required “extensive medical treatment” and 1,649 needed “less extensive treatment,” with 2,590 more claims still in review by plaintiffs’ counsel. (Rolling Stone‘s questions about how the plaintiffs’ lawyers defined “extensive” and “less extensive” were not answered.)
Initial reports estimated the number of people injured in the crowd rush to be around 300. The 50,000-capacity festival ran from 5th to 6th November, 2021, at NRG Park in Houston, Texas.
Astroworld promoters Live Nation and Scoremore, security company Contemporary Services Corporation and Travis Scott himself have all deflected responsibility for one of the most deadly concert crowd crushes in history. Travis Scott performed for the first time since the tragedy this past weekend at a Miami nightclub.
